With our base martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, we offer a weekly wrestling class to facilitate our base martial art by training to get our opponent down to the ground.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Grappling art - a structured ground fighting system that utilises various positional pins and submission holds

Developed by the Gracie family around the year 1920, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu quickly became a dominant force in the martial arts world due to its effectiveness in actual combat. The Gracie family started the original Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), when it had minimal rules, to showcase its effectiveness to the world. The original UFC consisted of styles vs. styles; many traditional martial arts forms such as karate and boxing took part in it. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu came out on top, proving its effectiveness, and the rest is history.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to develop both your physical and mental strength, as well as your emotional control. However, this can only be achieved if the practitioner is willing to take on everything that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has to offer.

Wrestling

Grappling art - a focus of getting the opponent to the ground and keeping them there with pinning techniques

If ground fighting is our base, then we need to get our opponent down to be able to use it, especially in a self-defence situation. This is where wrestling comes in. Considered to be the oldest form of combat, it has been the main form of combat grappling for centuries. We take the takedown techniques from freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, all while utilising effective pinning techniques to help facilitate our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu base. Our fundamental wrestling class is for all levels, with technique drilling and some live wrestling at the end of the class.

Mat Monsters

Our Foundation Class

“You can’t build a great building on a weak foundation.” This is very true for a human being also, which is why we have our Mat Monsters programme. We believe in starting our kids young, giving them a solid foundation to build on top of for whatever they choose to do in the future. Our goal is to develop not only physical strength, but also mental strength by teaching kids discipline through rules, order, and hierarchy. They will learn to improve their coordination through basic movement exercises and also learn some core Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques for self-defence. We do some live wrestling and ground fighting as well, to get them comfortable with both physical and mental pressure.

After some dedication to the programme, you will see your child improve their physical strength, coordination, and discipline. They will have more confidence overall and be able to stand up for themselves.
